Frequently Asked Questions
What should I bring and wear?
Everything you need to fish is provided. You need to bring a lunch and plenty of drinks, camera, sunscreen, sunglasses and a desire to have fun and catch fish. If you forget anything let us know, we usually have some spares on the boat. It's best to dress in layers so you can peel some off when it gets warm, or put some on if it cools off.
Will we still go if the weather is bad?
If the water is too rough for safety we will reschedule or cancel. Canceled trips due to rough weather will receive a full refund.
If something comes up and I can't go, do I get my deposit back?
Cancellations although rare are sometimes inevitable. We will work with you to the best of our ability, rescheduling is the best policy. If you must cancel you are required to give us at least 72 hours notice for a full refund. Any trips cancelled within 72 hours will forfeit deposits unless we can rebook the trip. All cancellations within 24 hours will forfeit any and all deposits.
Do you have a refrigerator for our drinks?
We will provide a cooler with ice for your drinks and lunch.
The trips normally depart around daylight.
What does Fish Jabo Charters provide?
Safe, clean, comfortable, well equipped and maintained, fully licensed and insured fishing boat. All fishing tackle (rods, reels, lures and bait). You will fish with hands on approach using the best methods for catching fish in our local waters. Fishers from the novice to the most experienced enjoy good catches.
How far in advance do you need to book?
As soon as you know the date you want you should make a reservation. Weekend trips fill up the fastest. One month in advance is a good idea. If you have some flexibility in your dates we can usually accommodate you even on short notice.
Do you keep what you catch?
You can keep up to the legal limit. Many practice catch and release. Bring a cooler to leave at the dock to transport your fish home.
How far out do we go to fish during the offshore trips?
You will typically be fishing 10-35 miles offshore. The average travel time to the fishing grounds is 30 to 90 minutes.
How old do you have to be to fish?
We welcome ages 8 and up. Please keep in mind, as with any sport, off-shore fishing is not without risk. Offshore fishing can be quite intense and action packed. Jabo Fishing Charters will do everything possible to ensure a safe environment for your entire party. If a calmer, youth oriented trip is desired, we suggest a bay trip or we will be glad to cater to your requirements. Your satisfaction and safety are our number one priorities.
How long does the trip last?
We offer 5, 6, 8 and 10 hour trips (from the time of check-in until you return to the dock).
Do you need a fishing license?
No. The boat’s license covers all requirements for the type of fishing you will enjoy with our crew.
What is the maximum number of people on the boat?
Each boat is licensed to carry up to six passengers for hire. However; for more fishing enjoyment, we encourage groups of up to 4 active fishers at one time. We limit near shore and bay trips to 4 fishers.
Is there a first mate or deck hand for the offshore trips?
Most of the time there is just the captain and your party. The boat is set up to allow the captain to assist you. If your party requests a designated deckhand, we can arrange for this.
What fishing techniques do you use?
Most bottom fishing is done with conventional reels, using medium to heavy tackle. We fish with lots of different baits including live and natural baits.
On our near shore sight fishing trips we will use a combination of artificial lures and live bait.
Techniques and baits used for bay fishing depend upon your preference of targeted fish. Many options are available.
What are your payment options?
A deposit of 50% is required to guarantee your reservation. The remainder is due at the end of your trip. We accept cash or check.
